Master of Arts in Design & Innovation/MBA

Bringing a product to life - from design to launch - requires more than just a passion. It requires business acumen to help the product expand. Now, more than ever, innovators operate in a rapidly changing landscape filled with new opportunities as well as growing financial and competitive challenges. This highlights the importance of having knowledge of business strategy to guide these ventures forward.

Overview

The Cox School of Business excitedly teamed up with the Lyle School of Engineering to develop a dual degree for students leaning towards design and innovation. This degree can be complete either full- or part-time. The curriculum of this degree combines business with design. The design focuses can include:

  • Human-Centered Design
  • Design Research
  • Design Thinking

The degree can be completed within 3 years, as students can complete their Full-Time One-Year MBA and their two year Master of Arts in Design and Innovation. This degree directly addresses the need for business-minded students to have the hands-on design tools and application necessary.

Curriculum

This curriculum blends the business with the strategic. In just the first year, you will take courses in both composition and design, as well as data analytics. This degree truly combines a strategic business-forward curriculum alongside innovative curriculum supported by Lyle.  

Admissions


MADI/MBA applicants will need to submit two separate applications for each side of the dual degree. The which is housed on the Lyle School of Engineering webpage, and an application to .

Jessica Burnham

Clinical Professor, Director of Human-Centered Design & Innovation

Burnham earned both her BFA and her MFA in design, communication, and innovation. She contributes to local business associations, such as Lowest Greenville Collective and the Deep Ellum Foundation, championing designed public safety systems. She is Program Director for the Master of Arts in Design and Innovation (MADI) program.

Marcus Butts

Professor, Dean's Distinguished Research Professor

Marcus Butts has won multiple faculty awards for teaching excellence. He focuses research on work-life interfacing, leadership, and multilevel statistics. He is published in multiple journals in academic psychology and has been cited widely in media outlets like the Huffington Post and TIME.

With a focus on brand strategy and a flourishing podcast, Zaveri provides unmatched expertise. She has consulting experience with major global corporations with Nestle, Keurig, Rubbermaid, and more on that list. She is an expert in human-centered design and innovation.
